Broken beat/soul-jazz singer-songwriter releases an album of demos displaying her overlooked talent
Bembé Segué is a stalwart of the broken beat/soul-jazz scene, having collaborated with everyone from Mark de Clive-Lowe and Dego to Bugz In The Attic and IG Culture. However, she’s never released a solo album. But if she had it’d probably sound like Untitled (Demo Album), a collection of Segué’s demos that were recorded a decade ago.
Segué is a great songwriter of jazzy fusion, as displayed on tracks like Stop Trying and Cosmic Spaces. That said, her undoubted talent isn’t always audible on this album. As befitting demos, the sound quality of these tracks is poor.
Nevertheless, Untitled (Demo Album) provides a glimpse of what label bosses are missing and gives Segué’s fans the chance to repay her for the hard work she’s put in to making fine music.
Untitled (Demo Album) is available as a free/”Name your price” download from Bembé Segué’s Bandcamp page.
