Up-and-coming DJ/producer infuses a Rihanna hit with some much-needed zest
How do you add flavour to bland dancehall pop? Sprinkle some Jamiroquai-like chords over a dollop of tabla rhythms. What you get is a tasty reworking, which, in just two days of being uploaded, has been listened to more than 100,000 times.
The man who made this soulful concoction is Jarreau Vandal, a 23-year-old DJ/producer raised in Amsterdam. He’s part of the Los Angeles-based collective Soulection, which has been releasing delectable tunes at the soulful end of the dance-music spectrum for yonks.
