A DJ Jazzy Jeff remix propels neo soul trio Moonchild into the spotlight (again)
Moonchild, comprising Max, Andris, and Amber, have DJ Jazzy Jeff and James Poyser to thank for some well-earned plaudits. Jeff and Poyser’s remix of Moonchild’s Be Free has thrust the trio into the limelight.
The song, which is a free/”name your price” download, is a great introduction to the band’s neo soul debut album, also entitled Be Free. The musicians met at the University of Southern California, where they studied jazz performance. After touring together as a horn section, they co-wrote and recorded Be Free, which came out in 2012.
It took, however, the Be Free remix to (re)shine a light on the rest of Moonchild’s work, which can be heard on this page.
