Above, London-based DJ Gilles Peterson presents a whirlwind tour of Brit funk, a criminally overlooked genre from the early ’80s that has since inspired a generation of musicians spanning retro Acid Jazzers to broken beat remixers.
Those who bought Peterson’s Masterpiece compilation will already be familiar with Brit funk. The third disc of that album featured wonderful tracks by UK outfits that were inspired by Stateside contemporaries – artists such as Cameo and Earth, Wind & Fire.
