Her warm smile may adorn its cover, but don’t be misled, this isn’t a full-blown Jill Scott release. As its title suggests, it’s a collection of her collaborations with the likes of Lupe Fiasco, The Isley Brothers, Common, Will Smith, Al Jarreau and George Benson. (Inexplicably, 4hero‘s Another Day isn’t included.) But the sum of its star-studded parts doesn’t amount to a trailblazing album. Sure, it starts off promisingly enough with a remix of Scott’s Love Rain — but when the CD strays from such familiar territory, it becomes a tad less interesting. In fact, the tracks that lack Scott’s signature sound only serve to remind devotees of what they’re missing — her third proper album.
