Inner City Life single – Hackney Colliery Band

Ever wondered what drum ‘n’ bass would sound like if played by a brass band? Well wonder no more…

Hackney in East London isn’t known for its coal-mining heritage. In fact, the only coal you’d find in this trendy enclave is on a few barbecues. So how Hackney Colliery Band arrived at their name is perplexing. All we know is that, according to their website, they try to mine “nuggets of funk, hip hop and high-octane rock from the musical coalface”.

In pursuit of this laudable aim, the band have tackled Goldie’s drum ‘n’ bass classic Inner City Life from his 1995 album Timeless.

The single will be released in early July on Wah Wah 45s and can be bought on “heavyweight” 7″ vinyl or as a digital download.
