Free download of some jazzy rap with a distinct Digable vibe from a Texas collective
The video (above) by a six-strong collective hailing from Houston, Texas, does a wonderful job of encapsulating the laid-back vibe of Slick, some jazzy hip hop that not only sounds like vintage Digable Planets but features Ladybug Mecca from the aforementioned ’90s trio.
But bar their obvious hipness, it’s difficult to learn much more about The Hue because their biography is a tad baffling — they’re on a “ongoing mission to end the weak and space up the world through sound and color”. Not sure what that means.
What is clear is that Slick appears on The Hue’s debut album Aurora, which does a fine job of melding neo soul with smooth rap.
Head to The Hue’s Bandcamp page where you can download Slick and buy Aurora.
