Since 2013 Los Angeles-based record label Soulection has been releasing short EPs as part of its White Label initiative. Its aim is to “expose as much talent as possible”. A commendable goal.
Number 17 in the series highlights the work of Manchester-based producer/DJ Sivey, who, until now, is probably best known for his 2014 collaboration with Evil Needle on the dialled-down garagey hit Constructive Interference.
Here, on Soulection White Label: 017, Sivey shows off his mastery of FL Studio. He uses the digital workstation to create a soulful synth selection that brings to mind the work of Stockholm funkmeister Opolopo.
