Previewing a five-track debut album by a drummer who’s worked with the likes of The Cinematic Orchestra, 4hero and Mark de Clive-Lowe
Adam “Rock” Moses and Justin “TopRock” McKenzie — who compiled Jazz Re:freshed Vol. 1 — are launching a series of five-track albums under the banner 5ive. The first CD comes courtesy of drummer Richard Spaven, whose rhythms can be heard on tracks by the likes of Mark de Clive-Lowe, 4hero and The Cinematic Orchestra.
The latter’s influence can be clearly spotted on Maz, a cool, assuasive cut that features José James on vocals. Joining James are nu jazzers, such as Brotherly’s Robin Mullarkey and Vincent Helbers of Flowriders fame.
Like Jazz Re:freshed Vol. 1 — a Commercial Break Album of the Year — Spaven’s 5ive is exposing underexposed talent, and at just £5 this mini album comes with a mini price, too
