New York musos Jesse Fischer and Sly5thAve release the Vein Melter EP, a tribute to Herbie Hancock’s seminal jazz fusion album Head Hunters
New York musos Jesse Fischer and Sly5thAve have joined forces to produce Vein Melter. The title gives a heavy hint of what this is all about. Vein Melter is the fourth track of Herbie Hancock’s 1973 Head Hunters album and is among the four covers on this EP, a recording that celebrates the 40th anniversary of Hancock’s seminal jazz fusion recording.
Multi-instrumentalist Jesse Fischer wanted to “take the spirit of the originals and reinterpret them through today’s dance music”. That’s certainly been accomplished. The pair have given a new twist to Hancock’s songs, often adding an orchestral overlay to these classic tracks.
The EP begins with the syncopated rhythms of Chameleon and concludes with the dreamy horn-led title track. Hear Vein Melter on this page, before heading to the Tru Thoughts website or iTunes to buy this release.
